Tuning In, ERU Conversations with IFRC.

Jumped online tonight for an IFRC session focused on how Emergency Response Units (ERUs) are evolving. Around 140 people from National Societies around the world were on the call, an impressive turnout that really shows the scale and reach of this work.

The conversation touched on some key changes happening across the ERU system. There’s a noticeable shift toward more consistent structures, clearer roles, and stronger collaboration across teams and borders. One theme that really stood out was the effort to better connect high-level planning with frontline action. That idea of aligning strategy with lived reality is something that feels especially relevant to the work I’ve been involved in over the past few years.

It was encouraging to hear how past experiences are being captured more systematically, and how learning and development continue to be a priority moving forward. There’s a lot in motion, but the direction feels considered and collaborative.

Always energising to be part of conversations like this—especially when they bring such a wide range of perspectives to the table.
