Retrofit Design, (France)
Designed to evoke calm and clarity, this yoga and wellness studio in Divonne-les-Bains transforms a dark, enclosed former nightclub into a serene and welcoming retreat. The design uses warm white oak, soft recessed lighting, and subtle brass accents to create a tactile and calming interior palette, while carefully considered circulation and framed sightlines guide visitors naturally through the studios, consultation rooms, and relaxation spaces. A key challenge in this project was working within the constraints of a heritage building. The existing structure presented immovable elements, including a large central stairwell at the main entrance and several fixed internal walls, which required sensitive planning to balance the building’s character with the client’s desire for open, flexible spaces. I used SketchUp and Enscape to develop and visualise the design, enabling me to quickly test spatial arrangements and lighting conditions within the complex existing shell. This workflow allowed for efficient iteration and helped communicate the transformative potential of the design, ensuring the final scheme respected the heritage fabric while delivering a tranquil, purpose-built environment for wellness and reflection.
